P.S. 121 Throop NYC and See the Good! connect families around happiness and well-being

The evening concluded with an energetic, community-wide performance of the program’s signature Strength Bird Dance

Bronx, NY – February 4, 2026

Building on its ongoing collaboration with P.S. 6 Throop, See the Good!, the Finnish research-based Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program grounded in positive education and psychology, hosted its first-ever Parent Evening at the school last week. The event, requested by the school’s principal to extend the partnership into family engagement.

The Positive Parent Evening brought together parents, guardians, and students for an interactive event focused on recognizing and nurturing children’s strengths and family well-being. Families participated in guided activities designed to help them understand which character strengths their children are developing at school and how to support those strengths at home.

The impact was immediate. Parents practiced positive, strengths-based feedback with their children in real time, creating meaningful moments of connection. A highlight of the evening was a storytelling activity in which families shared “hidden strength stories,” personal moments reflecting resilience, kindness, courage, and other core strengths often unnoticed in daily life. The exercise sparked authentic conversations and reinforced the vital role families play in supporting children’s emotional growth.

  3. “This topic is very important and needed at this time. Parents are so busy working, and this is a great reminder of how to bring these practices home.” - Alan S. Farrell, parent of a 3rd grader.

“Happiness and learning go hand in hand,” said Dr. Kaisa Vuorinen, founder of See the Good!. “When families and schools partner around a shared strengths-based language, children develop not only academically, but also in confidence, curiosity, kindness, and overall well-being.”

The evening concluded with an energetic, community-wide performance of the program’s signature Strength Bird Dance, bringing parents and students together in celebration. The event left attendees smiling and underscored the power of positivity to build stronger school communities.
